Ten Top Tips For New Racers

I didn’t grow up racing bikes, in fact I came to cycling fairly late in life and bike racing even more recently so I can still vividly remember what it feels like to be a newcomer to a sport that from the outside can seem a little intimidating.

Cycle racing, somehow more than other sports, seems to come with a whole load of confusing rules and can seem like an impenetrable mystery. And yes, it can take a while to learn about how it all works.

But there’s really no need to feel like an awkward kid in the playground, because actually, the vast majority of people who race bikes are very friendly and welcoming – just like at school, sometimes all you need to do is take the plunge and say hi.

Unless you’re a machine, there’s pretty much no way you’re not going to be nervous at your first race but it really helps if you can turn up armed with a little bit of knowledge so that you actually know what you’re supposed to be doing. A little bit of planning in the months up to your first event can make the difference between remaining calm and enjoying yourself and having a minor meltdown and a rubbish day.

So in order to help make your race debut as fulfilling as it possibly can be, I shared my top ten tips for wannabe racers with the guys over at SportsCover Direct. Click here to view the post.
