ŠKODA V Women’s Tour – Join Me Live
I’ve been working closely with ŠKODA on their women’s cycling initiative #ThisIsOurTime for several seasons now. It’s an absolute honour to partner with them to help support, grow and publicise all aspects of women’s cycling and year on year, what we’re doing gets more and more exciting.
Obviously Covid-19 has meant a drastic change of plans for everyone this summer which is disappointing for fans of sport, pro racers and the ŠKODA DSI Cycling Academy team who should have been bang in the middle of their second season. However, it does feel churlish to complain about missing out on cycling, travel and racing when there is a serious, life-threatening and world-changing pandemic.
That being said, cycling does a lot for people – it’s a stress buster, entertainment, inspiration and a boost to one’s health. So, I’m glad that lots of people are turning to their bikes this summer and that ŠKODA has enabled pro-racing to make a return.
The first-ever international women’s professional virtual stage race, the ŠKODA V Women’s Tour takes place from 17th – 19th June on the RGT virtual cycling platform. It’s directly because of ŠKODA’s and the other sponsors’ support that this race is happening.
“The new ŠKODA V-Women’s Tour gets underway tomorrow night (19:00 BST, Wednesday 17 June) live on the BBC Sport website, app and BBC iPlayer as well as the Women’s Tour website, Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Across three evenings 18 teams and more than 50 of the world’s top riders will face three stages of racing on the RGT Cycling platform, tackling two classic stage routes from Women’s Tour history around Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk (Wednesday) and the hill top finish of Burton Dassett in Warwickshire (Thursday 18 June) before a final 35-lap circuit race around Canary Wharf on Friday (19 June) evening.”
Following the professional racers, the general public can ride each virtual stage of the race for three days, with group rides, fan races or the option to simply ride alone. It’s free to set up an RGT Cycling account and all premium features available free of charge during the COVID pandemic.
However, all riders are asked to consider donating £5 to support the race’s charity partners – Breast Cancer Now and Mind.
