‘No Powder’ Vegan Protein Shakes
Morning all! It’s Monday morning and after a stormy weekend of torrential rain I’m typing this with a purring tabby cat on my lap; a great way to start the week! I’ve just come to the end of a hard block of training that was made even harder by the inclement weather because much as I enjoy turbo training there’s a limit to how long I want to sweat – around 90 minutes is about tops.
After maxing out on the training, this week Epic Coaching have put an ‘adaption week’ in my plan that includes TWO WHOLE REST DAYS and a week of shorter, gentler rides so I should be able to recover some of my energy and get the most out of the training I’ve been doing for the last few weeks. The only slight problem is that I’m actually going to skip today’s rest day because my buddy Keira McBiscuit has decided to pop down for the day and I’m going to take her out for a spin and show her some of Dartmoor. But you can’t live your whole life around a training plan!
On Friday I released the latest episode of Fuel Your Ride on my YouTube channel, this time sharing some recipes for my favourite protein power shakes. As I ride and workout a great deal, sometimes I don’t have time to make a proper meal as quickly as I need to when I get home so I use this shakes to rehydrate, top glucose levels back up and get a decent amount of protein to help myself recover as quickly as possible.
As I mention in the video I’m not actually vegan – it’s something I consider endlessly but as of yet I’ve not made that commitment full time. However, as I don’t like what I hear about the dairy industry and it’s so easy to make substitutions, I don’t use cow’s milk or butter at home so these shakes are all plant based/vegan. These shakes pack a protein punch and use all natural ingredients without any protein powders.
