‘Cycle jacking’ and bike theft in Hackney

There’s obviously a load of real shits living in Hackney. Over the last few days two of my friends have had their bikes nicked and one had both her wheels robbed. That sucks but even more worrying is a recent spate of violent ‘cycle jacking’ around the Haggerston, Queensbridge, and De Beauvoir areas where balaclavered thieves have attacked people riding past, pulling them off their bikes, kicking the shit out of them and stealing their bicycles. I’d be really careful around these areas at night. I know it sucks to change your route/behaviour because of these dicks but it would be terrible if you were targeted. More info on this story here

And if you see either of these bikes around, get in touch and let me know where. Or if you see one of them locked somewhere it might be worth slinging another lock around it.

De Beauvoir = mega dodgy. The last time I rode through there, some chav tried to chase me on a bike. The time before that, my housemate’s Campag wheel got nicked from off my bike.

If I have to leave my bike locked there, it won’t be for more than a pint’s worth and I’ll lock both wheels through.
