Catalonia Whirlwind Tour & ASSOS Domenica Photo Story
A couple of years ago I hadn’t seen much of Catalonia, having only ever visited to race Red Hook Crit Barcelona. I’d always found the city to be amazingly good fun, its accessible beaches, amazing architecture, vibrant culture, hip coffee shops and atmospheric markets very much appealing to me. Because though I live in the countryside these days, I truly love visiting cities and getting a bit of a culture fix.
Barcelona became one of my favourites right away but aside from rolling down to the beach, a trip to the velodrome and of course, the race down at Park el Forum, I never actually did a whole lot of cycling there.
Around eighteen months ago, I was invited over by the tourist board to see why this region that encompasses both Barcelona and Girona as well as the sunny Costa Brava is just so good for riding a bike. We rode the Vies Verdes, visited Begur and Sant Feliu de Guixols’ beautiful beaches and I was introduced to Girona, home to numerous professional cyclists thanks to its location, beauty and temperate climate.

I fell in love with Catalonia on that trip and have since been back several times, most recently last week when I flew in at the behest of my clothing sponsor ASSOS, to attend a party and go on a bike ride – it’s a hard life!
We introduced the new ASSOS women’s jersey to guests at women’s cycling store Domenica in Barcelona – one of the nicest and coolest bike shops I’ve ever been to – then met up for a group a couple of days later, in theory, to put our new jerseys to the test but in reality to spend several hours laughing and making new friends.

I also squeezed in a quick trip to ride dirt jumps at La Poma Bike Park and took a trip to Girona to visit La Fabrica and new store The Service Course before riding a wonderful loop in the sun.
